Intercultural Communication in the Workplace

Article, "Moving Communication Across Cultures", rectify a situation that illustrates an intercultural communication issue within a work environment and include the following:

1.  A full description of the communication issue.  Describe the context, the principle players, and the outcome of the situation.  Mention the verbal and nonverbal components in the experience you describe.

2.  A diagnosis of the communication issue.  Using two sources, state the cultural norms of the principles players involved in the given situation.  How do these cultural norms may have impacted the communication transaction.

3.  Strategies for dealing with the issue.  Recommendations that would have prevented the issue and paved the way for a more effective communication.


In Diversity Role-Plays please discuss the following:

1.  An intercultural transaction in which you have participated in which one or more parties demonstrated an application of kinesics different from your cultural norm.  
     a.  How did you react to the difference?  
     b.  Did the difference prove to be a barrier to the communication?

2.  How is it possible that individuals speaking the same language may confront cultural barriers to communications?

3.  How do language patterns manifest themselves in culturally specific thought processes, such as orientation to problem-solving and organization?
