Heat Pump

A heat pump with a COP (coefficient of performance) of 2.8 is used to heat an air-tight house. When running, the heat pump consumes 5 kW of power. If the temperature in the house is 7 degrees Celsius when the heat pump is turned on, how long will it take for the heat pump to raise the temperature of the house to 22 degrees Celsius? Is this answer realistic or optimistic? Explain. Assume the entire mass within the house (air, furniture, etc.) is equivalent to 1500 kg of air. Answer: 19.2 minutes Please avoid many steps (only what's necessary) because it's confusing to understand sometimes. Thanks.

Isothermal Carnot cycle

During the isothermal heat addition process of a Carnot cycle, 900 kJ of heat is added to the working fluid from a source at 400 degrees Celcius. Determine (a) the entropy change of the working fluid (b) the entropy change of the source and (c) the total entropy change for the process.

Combustion Reactions (Thermochemistry)

1. Gaseous Propane at 25 degrees C is burned with moist air at 400K in a steady state, steady flow process. The combustion process is adiabatic, and the exiting temperature is measured to 1200K. A sample of the products is tested and found to have a dew-point temperature of 70 degrees C. Determine the percentage of theoretical air used and the relative humidity of this air. Assume the combustion is complete and that the pressure is 100 KPa throughout the process. 2. A mixture of 80% ethane and 20% methane on a mole basis is throttled from 10MPa, 65 degrees C, to 100KPa and is fed to a combustion chamber where it undergoes complete combustion with air, which enters at 100KPa, 600K.
