Determining the strain due to an applied field, and the polarization due to an applied stress in direct and converse piezoelectric effects. Attachments in MS Word.

A piezoelectric material in the form of a rectangular bar has the dimensions a, b, c, and piezoelectric modulus d(ij)(provided in  matrix form in the solution attachment).

1) Find the new dimensions of the bar if an electric field, E is applied along the X2 axis. Will it remain rectangular?

2) Suppose a shear stress of sigma is applied about the X3 axis. Determine the magnitude and direction of the polarization.
