In a simple linear regression, we obtained the predicted equation y = 10.5 - 2x, and R2 = .81. The value of the correlation coefficient is _____. 2. In #1, the predicted y-value is ____ when x = 4. 3. In #1, suppose we add a second x-variable to the model. If the second x-variable is a useful predictor in the overall model, the MSE will a. increase b. decrease c. ????? See the attached regression output. Here we are using number of years of employment, college GPA, and entrance exam scores to predict salaries at a company. 4. At a .05 level of significance, which variable(s) is/are useful predictors? ... click for more

3) The following is a sample of Quiz and Final scores from a statistics class I recently taught. Quiz #1 Final 7 34 4 25 2.5 24 8 34 3 20 7.5 34 7.25 42 7 25 5 33 Conduct a hypothesis test to determine if there is a linear relationship (positive correlation) between the two scores or not (Hint: H0: r = 0). Remember to clearly state the null an... click for more

5) ESPN reported in sample of 1000 homes the proportion of people who watched the Texas v. Ohio State college football game this weekend was .6. ESPN also reported that in another sample of 1000 homes the proportion of people who watched the Arizona State v. Louisiana State game was .4. Conduct a hypothesis test to determine if the proportion of people who watched the Texas v. Ohio State game was greater than the proportion of people who watched the Arizona State v. Louisiana State game ( ). Assume α = .03 and remember to clearly state both the null and alternate hypothesis and your conclusion about the proportion of people watching the two games. 6) Historically, Yosemite Toads ... click for more

2) Disney tells you that the average distance between the ears on a Mickey Mouse hat is 5 inches. In a sample of 100 Mickey Mouse hats you find that the average distance between the ears on the hats is 5.2 inches with a standard deviation of 1 inch. Conduct a hypothesis test to determine if the average distance between the ears on a Mickey Mouse hat is greater than 5 inches ( ). Assume that α = .01 and remember to clearly state the null and alternate hypothesis as well as your conclusion about the average distance between the ears of a Mickey Mouse hat. 4) Electricity is commonly traded at the California-Oregon border (COB) and Palo Verde (PV) in Arizona.
