Obtaining a quadratic equation from a parametric equation

Part (a) gives a parametric equation and says deduce the equation of the line in the form of y = mx + c (easy enough) and to find values where the line crosses the y and x axis. (y = -12x + 18) There is a sketch of a 'left' sided triangle with a shaded area comprising a rectangle and a triangle (or three triangles). We are asked to determine an expression for this shaded area and then find the completed square form of the expression - this implies a quadtratic equation. We are then asked to use the completed square form expression to find the maximum value of the shaded area.
