did women in Italy have a rennaisance?

I'm looking for an outline of key points that will make for a strong arguement to write a short academic paper in response to Joan Kelly's seminal article.  I'm looking to make sure that I hit on the major points, and suggest any possible contradictions to the arguement.  The question is; Did changes during the Renaissance affect the position of women in Italian society?
