This job compares intentionalist and the functionalist theories.

The Holocaust is one of the most monumental events in human history. Even today, many have difficulty believing that such horrific events could occur. What theories exist as to how this incomprehensible event took place?

An outline of the Nazi actions is given.

The Third Reich was one of the most brutal political regimes the world has ever seen. One of the most astonishing facts is that the Nazis did not take power forcefully but were elected the largest party in the Reichstag (German Parliament). Why is it that the Nazis appealed to so many Germans when Germany was among the most civilized nations in the world?

Hitler's attack of the Soviet Union in June 1941

Adolf Hitler's decision to invade the USSR was his most fateful of the entire war. It was this decision that widened the conflict into a global war and ultimately led to the collapse of the Third Reich itself. This decision continues to be the subject of much debate. What role did strategic factors play? What weight should be given to ideology? The following numbered outline gives the student a good basis from which to conduct further research into the rationale behind the German invasion of the Soviet Union. I have attached a bibliography.

German Reunification in 1990 is hypothesized.

The division of Germany in post-war Europe was at the heart of the Cold War itself. Germany was divided, just as the European continent and a large part of the world, between a capitalist, free West and a communist, totalitarian East. Why did German reunification happen at all? Was this inevitable? Or was it in many ways an unlikely event given East Germany's status in the eyes of the Soviets - particularly its role as the centerpiece in the Soviet satellite system paid for with lives of millions of Soviet citizens during WWII? Some of the reasons for German reunification are discussed in the following text, accompanied by a brief bibliography for students.

Treaty of Versailles

I have been assigned Part 2-3 of the Treaty of Versailles. Write a 1-2 page consolidated summary of the original treaty text provisions/wording that you think should have been done differently so as NOT to provide the catalyst for another war. A copy of the treaty can be found here: Treaty of Versailles: http://www.yale.edu/lawweb/avalon/imt/partxv.htm.
