Health Care Spending

Why does it matter what we spend on health care in this country?
Should we be spending considerably less in terms of GDP such as Canada and Europe with is about 7%vs the USA at 15%?
What would be some consequences of high health care costs for individuals, companies, state and federal governments?
How would we be able to get health care costs lowered or should we just leave it alone?
