How has it impacted the environment and the way that humans use natural resources? What triggered the Environmental Revolution? When did people become more focused on environmental issues? What are the goals of the Environmental Movement? Do you think that we should continue to pursue these goals? Why or why not? Biogeochemical cycles describe the cycling and recycling of elements in ecosystems. In your own words, describe the cycling of carbon, phosphorus, and nitrogen through both the living (biotic) and non-living (abiotic) components of ecosystems. And, describe how humans have impacted each of these three cycles. Questions 1 & 2. Describe the history and importance of the Ind... click for more

Ecosystems can change over time in a process known as natural succession. When an ecosystem is disturbed, both the physical (abiotic) and living (biotic) characteristics may be altered. Disturbances may be natural (e.g., a fire started by lightning) or anthropogenic – human caused (e.g., a fire started by a campfire.) Choose a specific ecosystem and discuss the consequences for damage to the ecosystem and recovery of the ecosystem when it is disturbed by a natural AND an anthropogenic events. Describe the severity of the disturbances. How will the abiotic and biotic characteristics of the ecosystem change? How quickly will the ecosystem recover (the ecosystem’s resilience)? Shoul... click for more

Domestication of plants/animals for food
Many plants and animals are bred and domesticated for food. I have found a great deal of information about the history of domestication, but am having trouble finding suggestions about what are the best ways to continue to meet the demand for human consumption with regard to domestication. Looking into agriculture and animal farming, I find it is a slow process involving natural selection, and selective breeding as two methods. I want to be able to incorporate more about mechanization, land conversion for domestication purposes, the use and effects of chemicals and water, pollution, contamination and other environmental issues. I want to also address the global economic importance of d... click for more
