Internet and Multimedia Technology

Write a short description of a potential multimedia presentation that could be implemented across the WWW for a particular subject of interest to you. The choice is yours and it can be from anywhere in the world. Later, you will be expected to demonstrate your skills through a series of simple exercises, (please note we do not expect you to be fully conversant with such things as server side scripts, PHP ,ASP etc.), therefore do not make it too restrictive. The description should be about a page and is not the final design document. I’ve found it best to avoid controversial or political subjects. You should consider and discuss what types of tools you would need to do the work.

Video and Animation

Design (just storyboard, don't actually create it unless you want to get ahead) a short video clip on some topic from your chosen multimedia project. Do the same for a short 3D animation using Blender on a different topic. Note: animated banners or similar are NOT adequate. Use PowerPoint to provide a ‘storyboard’ for both cases which clearly shows timing and timelines. You are not being judged on your artistic ability. Criteria for Video Clips

Develop a set of criteria for assessment of video clips suitable for inclusion in Multimedia presentations over the web. Discuss your choices and where they differ from choices you would make for a CD presentation.

SMIL and SVG

1- Using SMIL and SVG, it is possible to select resources from different locations and contributors to create a single unified presentation. How would you implement a system (conceptually, not technically) for ensuring payment to contributors based on usage of their contribution? Think of how photo web sites sell photographers' images. Would the same work for SMIL and SVG? 2- Using a tool of your choice, create a short item for your multimedia production which incorporates the use of SMIL and SVG.
