Spectroscopy/Advanced Physical Chemistry

(See attached file for full problem description with proper symbols and equations) --- Given the following electronic configuration for the ground state of CF: a) determine the term symbol for the ground electronic state. b) determine the term symbols for the excited states that result when an electron is promoted from the MO to the MO and from the MO to the MO. c) are these transitions allowed based on spin and orbit selection rules? d) Are these transitions allowed if a vibration couples to the electronic transition and the vibrational quantum number changes from to during the vibronic transition? ---

1H NMR spectrum for 4-phenylphenol

Refer to attached document. I have an 1H NMR spectrum of 4-phenylphenol (400 Mhz, CDCl3 solvent) and I have the spectrum assignment for the chemical shifts and corresponding protons. I would like an explanation of WHY each shift correspond with their particular protons. For instance, why are the protons adjacent to the phenol group most downfield (7.540 ppm). Isn't phenol an electron donating group, and don't electron donating groups cause shift upfield?? (Please try and explain thoroughly, my background in NMR spectroscopy is limited.) I would also like the J values for each shift.

Help Identifying Structure of compound for IR Spectroscopy Graphs

I have to answer questions about things like SODAR and chemical formula using IR Spectroscopy, Mass Spectroscopy, C NMR, and H NMR graphs for five unknown compounds. In order for me to answer the questions, I first need to determine which compound the graphs are describing. I know how to determine SODAR and chemical formulas, but I need help identifying the structure of the compounds using the graphs. Two of the five sets of graphs for unknown compounds are attached. (See attached files for full problem description)

1H NMR spectrum interpretation

I need to: provide an interpretation for all protons in the 1H NMR spectrum of 4-vinylbenzoic acid and indicate how the 1H NMR spectrum of the corresponding methyl ester would differ from that of the acid. On the 1H spectrum, I see a quartet around 6.8ppm which I don't know where it comes from, because I think it should be a triplet and also why there is two doublets, when I think there should only be one. I can see that the singlet at 7.2ppm is probably the H of -OH. and the two doublets at around 7.5 and 8.0ppm are Ar-H protons. I also need help on the methyl ester part.
