Heat transfer: Condensation Rate Calculation
Saturated steam at 1.2 psia is condensed on the outside of a horizontal 3/4 inch 16 BWG steel tube. Cooling water enters the tube at 60 deg F and leaves at 75 deg F at a velocity of 6 ft/s. The heat transfer coefficient on the outside of the tube is 1600 BTU/hr*ft^2*F. Find the overall heat transfer based on the outside heat transfer area. Assume the overall heat transfer coefficient Uo is 350 BTU/hr*ft^2*F.
If the tube is 16 ft long, what is the condensation rate of the staem in lb/hr?
